What age can kids play paintball?

There's no single legal minimum age for playing paintball at a UK field — each field sets its own. As a rough guide, many fields offer low impact paintball for younger children, often from around 8 years old, and standard paintball from around 11 or 12.

Under-18s usually need a parent or guardian to sign a consent form, and some fields ask an adult to stay on site. Always check the age range on the package or session before you book — on TACPLAY every party package shows it.

What is low impact paintball?

Low impact paintball is a gentler version of the game made for younger and first-time players. The markers are lower powered and the paintballs are smaller and lighter, so hits sting much less than standard paintball.

The game is the same — capture the flag, attack and defend, elimination — so kids get the full experience. It's the most popular choice for kids' birthday parties.

Does paintball hurt for a 10 year old?

With low impact paintball, a hit feels like a quick flick or sting and fades within a minute or two. A small bruise is possible on bare or thinly covered skin. The best way to soften hits is clothing: long sleeves, trousers, a hoodie and gloves.

Standard paintball stings more, which is why fields usually keep it for older children and adults.

Is paintball safe for kids?

Run properly, paintball is a safe, supervised activity. Good fields will:

  • Give every player a full-face mask that stays on in the playing area at all times.
  • Run a safety briefing before anyone plays.
  • Have marshals on the field during every game.
  • Use minimum shooting distances and surrender rules.
  • Keep barrel covers on and markers safe outside the playing area.

What should kids wear?

  • Old clothes that can get muddy — paint washes out, mud sometimes doesn't.
  • Long sleeves and trousers, plus a hoodie or extra layer.
  • Trainers or boots with good grip (no open shoes).
  • Gloves if they have them; a hat or beanie under the mask on cold days.

Planning a kids' paintball party

Pick a package made for the age group, book a date and time that suits the group, and check what's included: kit hire, paintballs, how long the games last and whether there's a space for food and cake.

On TACPLAY you can compare kids' party packages at fields near you — each shows its age range, group size and price per group — and book online in a few taps.
